It seems like in summer, everyone dreams about going to the beach. And who can blame them? Soaking up the warm sunshine, keeping cool in the refreshing ocean water, feeling sand between your toes, abundant aquatic sea life, the list goes on. But what if you have a beach lover who, instead of dreaming of sugar plums and gumdrops, dreams of green Palms and surf shops? After all, not everyone dreams of a White Christmas; some want a Beach Christmas, and we can deliver. Here's why you should book a beachy vacation for the upcoming winter holidays!

The beach will be less crowded.

Winter is probably the best time of year in California to visit the beach because the summer crowd clears out. No longer will you worry if you’ll be able to find a spot in the sand to lay out your towel. Or concerned that someone will wreck your epic sandcastle. In lieu of snow, spend the day making Sand Angels! As long as it’s not raining, you can have a fun-packed day at the beach, without being surrounded by people. And won’t it be nice to enjoy that crisp sea breeze? If it’s a bit chillier later in the day, just remember to bring along jackets, hats, and a thermos of peppermint hot chocolate!

It’s the coolest time to go surfing.

It’s no secret that winter is one of the best times of the year to go surfing in California. Along with the beach being less crowded as stated above, the California winter waves are a surfer’s paradise. In the article “Surfing California / Everything You Need To Know” from Lush Palm, it states, “A very popular stretch is a surfing road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway between LA and San Francisco.” It later adds that Rincon, located on the Ventura and Santa Barbara county line, is, “...is often referred to as the Queen of the Coast. A long, beautiful, right-hand point break with the perfect pace. Late fall to early spring is your best window to catch her in all her glory. Barrel sections typically on offer with a decent size swell and mid to lower tide. But works on all tides, easterly winds are offshore.”

Speaking of Ventura County, consider adding Oxnard, California, to your list of potential surfing destinations. It’s only 30 minutes away from Rincon, and Oxnard Shores will likely be even less crowded than some of the more well-known beach towns. Plus, Beachy Keen is only 150 steps away from Oxnard Shores, so you can easily pack your surfboard back and forth to catch those timely swells. It’s the perfect gift, so surprise your favorite surfer with a holiday trip to Beachy Keen!
